Part Time Music Director – First United Methodist Church Golden

Seeking Part-Time Music Director to begin January 2025
Position: Part-Time Music Director
Hours: Approximately 6 hours per week
Location: First United Methodist Church Golden, 1500 Ford, Golden CO 80401
Reports to: Senior Pastor/ Staff Parish Relations Committee
Position Overview: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Part-Time Music Director to lead and develop our music program, which currently includes a Chancel Choir and a Praise Band. The Music Director will work closely with the pastor, volunteer musicians, and choir members to enhance the musical elements of our worship services. The ideal candidate will have a passion for both traditional and contemporary church music and the ability to inspire and direct volunteer musicians of varying skill levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and direct the Chancel Choir and Praise Band in rehearsals and Sunday worship services.
  • Plan and coordinate music selections in consultation with the pastor ensuring music aligns with the worship themes and enhances the congregation’s spiritual experience.
  • Schedule and lead weekly rehearsals for the choir and support the leadership of the praise band, typically requiring around 6 hours per week, including Sunday morning preparation and worship services.
  • Recruit, mentor, and retain choir members and instrumentalists, encouraging growth in both
    musical abilities and spiritual connection through music.
  • Coordinate and oversee special music programs for holidays (e.g., Christmas, Easter), and
    occasional church events.
  • Collaborate with sound technicians and other staff to ensure quality worship experiences.
  • Manage the music ministry’s budget for music purchases, supplies, and other related needs.
    Qualifications:
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience directing a choir, preferably within a church setting.
  • Education: A degree in music or a related field is preferred but not required if the candidate has significant relevant experience.
  • Musical Skills: Ability to lead and direct a choir, strong knowledge of choral and instrumental
    music. Proficiency in piano, organ, or other instruments is a plus.
  • Leadership: Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work with a
    variety of ages and skill levels in both the choir and the band.
  • Spiritual Alignment: A commitment to the values of the church, which are Authenticity, Inclusion and Justice, along with the commitment to value and include all generations.
  • Availability: Must be available for all Sunday morning services, weekly rehearsals, and occasional special events or services.
